An ankle foot orthosis (AFO) is used to improve walking patterns by reducing, preventing or limiting movement of the lower leg and foot and by supporting weak muscles, in both children and adults.
AFOs can assume the function of the ankle joint to keep the foot lifted if it is not able to perform the action on its own.
Outcomes of an AFO include improved balance, decreased risk of falls, and increased mobility. AFOs are used in the treatment of various conditions such as stroke, cerebral palsy, and nerve injuries.
AFOs are typically made from carbon fibre or thermoplastic, and can be customised for individual clients’ needs. We provide both off-the-shelf and custom made AFOs for all ages.
